Japanese Garden
Saturday, May 31st, 2003We met the Gray/Silvas at the Japanese garden at the University of Washington Arboretum. It was ranked as the 8th nicest Japanese garden outside of Japan. It was surprising to see which garden was ranked 7th.

Grandpa Dave came to visit Malcolm. Dave met Malcolm on his first birthday, but then picked up pneumonia and was unable to see him for 2 weeks. Here’s a shot of their happy reunion.
Don’t know how well this will work (the file is 6 MB), but I thought I would try to post a little movie I made at the hospital with Malcolm on his first day.
You may need to download Quicktime if you don’t have it.
Malcom got to meet the McDougals this weekend. Jan, Steve, Kevin, and Eric came up to Seattle to visit friends and family and stopped by to see us.
Saori and Akio sent Malcolm a puppy from Japan. Malcolm has decided to name his new friend King in honor of Shirakawa King, a famous dog from Japanese folklore. Shirakawa King was considered the diety of little hair bows and would get stepped on occasionally.
Thanks Saori and Akio for the nice companion!

We’re bad parents–we haven’t been bathing Malcolm all that much. He stays fairly clean: he hasn’t been doing much yard work to get him dirty. But, we’re going to start bathing him more, and we found it’s more fun for everyone if we fill up the bathtub and I get in with him. He stays nice and warm, gets to float with me supporting his head, and he hasn’t pooped yet!

Beth continues to do great. We go out walking every day (sometimes a bit too far) and that is helping her get back into the swing of things after 2 months of not really doing much. As you can see, she looks as great as ever!

Malcolm’s aunt Kris came to visit this week and brought us dinner! Thanks Aunt Kris. Here’s Malcolm enjoying some quality time with the woman he will surely come to know as “his favorite aunt with the ducks!”

Malcolm is currently fighting a milk addiction. He rarely can stand to be without his “fix” for more than 6 hours at a time. When he’s not slugging down his beverage of choice, he’s sleeping off the effects. It’s begining to affect his performance at work. This picture was taken when he realized his milk hangover had caused him to leave the new cover sheets off his latest TPS reports. Yeah, I’m going to need you to go ahead and put the new cover sheets on all your reports…

Grandma Betsy came to visit and spent some time with Malcolm. As you can see, he had a great time.
