Potts Get-together

Tuesday, August 26th, 2003

The Potts family, minus the Franklin, MA Pottses, gathered at the cottage last week.

Of course, Malcolm already knows Grandma Betsy and Grandpa Dave and Cousin Karsten, but it was his first chance to spend time with his Cousin Keagan, and his Uncle Ken. Just like Peggy, we didn’t get a picture of Heather with Malcolm, but here she is swimming with Ken and Keagan, who were later on lifeguard duty. The reunion was great, but I think it negatively affected the psyche of Karsten–he seemed a bit unstable at times! Just kidding Karsten!

To The Cottage

Monday, August 25th, 2003

We spent 6 days at my parents’ cottage in Wild Rose Wisconsin, also known as “Up Nort”.

Malcolm learned what a great place the cottage is for relaxing as long as you dress appropriately.

Malcolm’s First Trip

Sunday, August 24th, 2003

We took Malcolm to Wisconsin for a week. Turns out he’s a good traveler!

Malcolm got to spend some time with Grandpa Bill and Grammy Beth. They hung out on the porch and met Chloe up close and personal. Great Uncle John got to see the boy, and Nan was introduced to her great grandchild. We managed not to get a picture of Peg!

GW Bush Doll

Monday, August 11th, 2003

I would be remis if I didn’t point out this link. He’s all cute with that “I can’t read the teleprompter” squint! Buy me one so I can videotape a commitment ceremony between him and Ken!

Where do you go with something this easy?

  • Is it anatomically correct? What does that mean?

  • Does it smell like Johnny Walker?
  • Does it come with a change of clothes so it can go AWOL and work on Daddy’s Senate campaign?
  • Are those bogus ballots stuffed in his pants?

Beth with 3 Kids

Saturday, August 9th, 2003

Why stop at one when 3 would be so easy to manage? Malcolm, Sara, and Alexander hanging out with Beth.

Chew the Sweater

Friday, August 8th, 2003

Caught on film is the first instance of Malcolm grabbing something and shoving it into his mouth. We predict that this will happen 700,000 more times before he reaches age 2, but this is the first.

Remodel of the Exterior

Friday, August 8th, 2003

We’ve started a bunch of work on our house. When we bought it last year, the inspection showed we’d have to:

  • put a new roof on the house and shed

  • rebuild the front porch, which was rotten from top to bottom
  • clean out and button up the crawl space as it was a fairly popular location for the under 20 rodent set
  • paint the house and shed

We’re finally getting around to having the work done.

Linux at Home for $300

Tuesday, August 5th, 2003

Until two weeks ago, I didn’t have a computer at home. I’ve always had a laptop as part of my job, and have relied on it for any home based computing. That changed about 1 month ago when I bought a computer and got it running for $300. I wanted to share some of my experiences as it has been a truly eye-opening process.
