Roly Poly, Daddy’s Little Fatty

Monday, December 15th, 2003

OK, Malcolm if officially pudgy. He’s got a roll at his wrist in which he could smuggle stolen car parts.

He makes me think of the great song by Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys, “Roly Poly”:

Roly Poly, eatin’ corn and taters
Hungry every minute of the day
Roly Poly, gnawin’ on a biscuit
Long as he can chew it it’s ok
He can eat an apple pie
And never even bat an eye
He likes everything from soup to hay
Roly Poly, daddy’s little fatty
Bet he’s gonna be a man someday

Roly Poly, scrambled eggs for breakfast
Bread and jelly 20 times a day
Roly Poly eats a hearty dinner
It takes lots of strength to run and play
Pulls up weeds and does the chores
Runs both ways to all the stores
He works up an appetite that way
Roly Poly, daddy’s little fatty
Bet he’s gonna be a man someday

We used to get together with our friends and talk about current events, politics, and stimulating topics. Now we play with blocks.

A Little H2O

Monday, December 15th, 2003

Along with eating solid foods comes drinking water. Luckily, the boy loves drinking from a glass. He actually gets a decent amount of water in his mouth and swallowed. He is really good at soaking his entire outfit when you let down your guard for even a second–strong little boy!

The MA Pottses Visit the Northwest

Monday, December 15th, 2003

Dan, Steph, Andrew, Jessie, and Brian Potts came to Tacoma for Thanksgiving this year. Dave and Betsy hosted the big meal. It was a great time. All the cousins got to know each other and played pretty hard. Malcolm really enjoyed meeting his oither Potts cousins. He likes them all and can’t wait to see them again!

Sweet Potatoes

Tuesday, December 9th, 2003

Malcolm is on to solid foods. He’s diggin’ sweet potatoes, bananas, and rice cereal. He’s not quite proficient at it yet (either am I) but last week he learned that opening his mouth makes things much easier, so that helps.

Genealogy

Friday, December 5th, 2003

When Malcolm was born in May, and his great-grandfather Earl died the next day, it got me thinking about my family history. I know so little, But there are some people out there who have done amazing research on parts of my family, so I compiled what they have mada available in Malcolm’s Family Tree. It is certainly not complete, so feel free to send me info if you want!

I’m using some amazing free software to display the tree info. I can’t take any credit for how nice it looks. Long live Open Source Software!
